The first Golden Cashew Nut Festival will be held in Binh Phuoc (Vietnan) province from March 20-23 at a total cost of VND15 billion. During the event, there will be concerts, a parade of bicycles decorated in flowers, competitions to create a slogan and a logo for the festival, a ceremony to award scientists and manufacturers and several conferences.
A ceremony to hand over cashew nut seeds from the Vietnamese government to the governments of Cambodia and Laos will also take place. Vietnam is one of the countries in the world that has a huge output of cashew nuts producing over 15,000 tonnes per year. In 2008, Vietnam overtook India to become the biggest supplier of cashew nuts to the US. In 2010, Vietnam is looking to export 170,000-180,000 tonnes.
