United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has launched a $ 20 million agro-business program in Mozambique. The agro-business program is expected to improve the competitiveness of the southern African private sector agriculture among others.
The program will increase competitiveness by strengthening targeted agricultural value chains and will build on market demand assessments conducted for each value chain. The nine value chains which are said to have been identified in the programme are for maize, groundnuts, Soya beans, pineapples, bananas, mangoes, cashew nuts, sesame and forestry. Agriculture is one of the areas that most African continents have put their much attention in order to raise food production. However, many farmers have suffered setbacks due to the climate change hence the implementation of new techniques by various institutions (From AfricaNews).
